Is it because you have a ton of valuable information to share? Is it because you know so much about a topic, you can fill pages and pages with the stuff?

No doubt, these are important factors in your blog writing, but the key to perfection is the way you present your story.

Let’s have a look at the structure of a blog post and how you can build on that to WOW your readers.

Breaking down the perfect blog post

You have a great story, with some brilliant points to make. How do you present it so that people are compelled to read it?

Let’s take a look at the elements and how they work:

 

1. A Powerful Headline

The headline calls for a lot of your attention and care when creating your post. An ineffective headline means an overlooked article.

It needs to grab the attention of the reader so they simply can’t resist what it is you have to say.

2. Feature image

A good feature image provides a number of benefits for your blog post:

  • It supports the headline and can hook the reader in even more
  • The image breaks up the text
  • It adds flare to your post, and can smarten up any article excerpts on your website – like those on your blog home page or search results page
  • The feature image appears in social media shares, making them so much more effective

3. Introduction

This is your chance to really grab your readers’ interest. You can connect with them on a personal level by describing situations they can relate to, and explain what benefits they can expect from reading your post.

4. Proof

Use such things as data, graphs and references throughout your post to back up your story and make it more interesting.

5. Sub-headings & sub-sections

Break up the text and make it easier to read by using sub-headings and smaller blocks of information. Use keywords in your sub-headings if you can, but in moderation. (Don’t spam them.)

Keep paragraphs short. Break them up with any relevant bullet points, images, quotes or graphs. This makes the content much more interesting and easier to read.

Create a sub-section for each major point of your story.

6. Conclusion

Recap your major points and review any key takeaways or verdicts from your post. Explain any outcomes and what people can do with your information from here in.

Make it a strong, satisfying wrap up.

7. Call to Action

Invite people to comment, share, sign-up, contact you, click… don’t leave it to chance that they might think of it. Tell them!

Depending on your type of call to action, you may find it relevant to repeat it once or twice throughout the post.
